In January, a new group of students and their teachers took a morning off from
classes at the B.V.I. High School to visit the Island Sloop Project. Project
Director, Kevin Gray lectured to the technical students, many of whom will join
the project during their upcoming Easter Vacation. Students returned to Tortola
enthused about learning about boat-building, sail-training and the marine
environment. We look forward to welcoming enthusiastic new students to our
programme.

Students from Tortola pose with Endeavour II.
As we continue to move closer to our goal of launching Endeavour II, the Jost
van Dykes Preservation Society is working to develop sail training and
environmental education curricula. Once floating, Endeavour II will continue to
educate and act as a “floating classroom.”

Flex poses with the mold built for Endeavour II’s lead keel.
In January, one of our original student workers, Delvin “Flex” Leonard re-joined
the Island Sloop Project. Along with Dwayne Donovan and Gerald Chinnery
construction continued, with the building of the mold for the lead keel, as well
as construction of Endeavour II’s rudder, which was built from Silverbali and
Cupiano.
